We need your help – with armchair fundraising
The coronavirus pandemic has left us with an empty fundraising calendar – so we are asking for Kent’s help to keep donations coming in – through ‘armchair fundraising’.
Online donations, plus donating via charity platforms Give As You Live and Amazon Smile can all help at the moment to top up our funds.
Our theatre shows, clothes sales, fairs and endurance events have all been cancelled or postponed, which means the income from those events will either come later or not at all.
The dip comes at a time when our services may be needed more than ever. Our CEO Caroline Ford is hoping people will pick up the baton and help us through their online shopping.
She said: “It’s important to note that just because our fundraising has taken a dip, the services we offer have not – everyone who needs us will hear from us. We will continue to provide the vital bereavement support needed, despite the anticipated spike in demand.
“Sadly, we are expecting an increase in referrals from families across Kent who need our help to support children through bereavement if they are affected by COVID19.
“If someone in the family dies or is about to die, we are here to help to support the children through the bereavement.
“Obviously with COVID19, some families are facing sudden deaths of their loved ones and we are here to help them to support their children through grief, whilst they themselves are grieving too.
“With all fundraising events cancelled, it has left a dent in our income which we are looking to recoup where we can and armchair fundraising is the perfect place to start – that everyone can join in with!
The charity is registered through Give As You Live and Amazon Smile.
Give As You Live:
All you have to do is sign up for free, then every time you shop online through a retailer affiliated to the scheme, a percentage of your spend is donated, that costs you nothing.
A pop-up box will appear that you just click to confirm you are happy with the donation – online and through apps too.
Donations can be made every time you order your groceries online with Tesco or Asda, plus when you’re buying other items in M&S, John Lewis, Argos or Morrisons, you can also help.
When travel picks up, you can also raise money when you book your holiday through some of the major tour operators including Tui, Expedia and lastminute.com.
A donation of 0.5% of the net purchase price is donated to us – but you have to select us as your charity to support through your account page.
Caroline added: “Now is the time for us to really push this quick and simple fundraising to help us to bring in more almost effortless donations, but also to build them up in the future. Holiday season and Christmas are particularly good times for us to benefit through online shopping, so people signing up now will continue to help us.”
